Despite the inclement weather residents and voluntary groups of Roscrea came together recently for a let’s clean Roscrea day
Saturday 25th April Roscrea, despite the inclement weather residents and voluntary groups of Roscrea came together as one to litter pick and clean the approach roads to their town.
The event organised by the Roscrea Men’s Shed and Roscrea Community Hub, was to not only clean up the area but to facilitate communities and their efforts for a cleaner Roscrea, taking part were, Roscrea Women Together, Roscrea Tidy Towns, Kennedy Park Residents Group, Junior Tidy Towns Roscrea, Roscrea’s Free Spirit Motorbike club.
The day got off to a wet start, but this did not deter those assembled, splitting into three teams they started at the edge of town on the local approach roads litter picking, and removing large articles of refuse as they made their way back into Roscrea.
With a number of the men’s shed members providing safety awareness and supervision the pickers managed to cover all local routes and a number of internal approach roads.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Neil Guerin Chairperson of the Shed said the turnout was impressive, but the volume of work carried out was astounding, with good humour and often a wry smile those present had done their communities and their town proud, no longer would the saying “ that’s just how it’s done be applicable to
Roscrea” instead it would be a case of let’s do it ourselves, let’s make sure we make it happen.
Summing up the event Neil thanked those present and invited them to the Roscrea men’s shed for Tea, sandwiches’ and maybe a slice of cake.
While the volunteers had refreshments and had a chance to see the activities and projects of the shed, Mike Edwards of the Roscrea Community Hub, explained why Let’s Clean Roscrea Day had been organised and why it would become an annual event.
Pauline Simmons, Bernie Delaney, Carrie Ann Spain.
“ The shed and the Hub, both felt that as Roscrea had received so many negative comments now was the time for action, It was decided to facilitate and motivate the communities of Roscrea to empower themselves, to take the initiative and put an end to the believe that Roscrea had nothing to offer.
Roscrea has a different feel to it, the air is redolent with positivity and we as groups need to feed that positive attitude.
The shed and the hub, where possible will help any community or group that is positive in outlook for the town, we are about action and activity, call in any Tuesday or Thursday for a chat, find us on Facebook or email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0971049198.
