Recently, nearly 300 athletes completed the Ballyskenach Athletics Club 5K road race
Last Friday night, nearly 300 athletes completed the Ballyskenach Athletics Club 5K road race. Friday night was a perfect night for running and many athletes achieved Pb’s on a very fast course. We would like to congratulate all the category winners and it was great to see Liam Brady and Pauline Curley lead out the field. (See below for full set of results)
We would like to thank Offaly County Board and particular Darren Butler for organising the road series. It really is impressive to see so many runners, not just from Offaly, but also from the midlands making the effort to participate in each race. We want to thank Lucy Darcy from myrunresults for the timekeeping, Adrian Martin for his excellent photography and Adrian Curley for certifying the course.
A special word of thanks to John Kirby and the committee of Roscrea Rugby Club for the use of their excellent facilities and Mt. Saint Joseph's Abbey for allowing the run through their beautiful grounds.
We were delighted to have so many volunteers assist us and we would like to thank all our Stewards who marshalled the course with precision along with members of Free Spirit M.C.C. We would also like to thank An Garda Siochana and Order of Malta who ensured the safety of our runners.
We would like to thank all our sponsors who kindly donated sponsorship. Every event brings it own costs and your sponsorship greatly assisted us.
A special mention must go to Para Havatitye for designing and donating the beautiful Monty Franks Perpetual Trophy. It was a great honour to have Anne Franks present the trophy and to have members of the Franks family among us.
We would like to thank our own committee in Ballyskenach for their efforts in organising the event, from setting out the course, to parking the cars, to setting up the Rugby Club, to registration of the athletes, to the catering, to cleaning up afterwards, you certainly did a wonderful job.
We also had a Juvenile race and congratulations to all the athletes who took part. We had 70 athletes participating and great credit must go the athletes, their coaches and parents. These athletes are the future stars of our club going forward.
Training for Juvenile athletes takes place at 6.30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings in Ballyskenach Gaa field and at 7:45pm for the Senior Athletes. New members are always welcome.
