Performing the Arts in Roscrea since 1967, the new millennium sees The Roscrea Players going from strength to strength.

Initially the group performed in local Roscrea venues such as The Pathe Hotel and the Convent Hall. In recent years the Abbey Hall has been the home of the Players. Since 2001 the group have forged a link with the fabulous Birr Theatre and Arts Centre (Oxmantown Hall) where the group stage their show for 2 nights after the run in Roscrea. This is an exhilarating experience for amateur actors to experience the thrill of acting in a 'Real' theatre and in addition it is nice to bring our show to an audience that would otherwise not see it in our local town.

In January 2005 when the Players were presented with a TIPP FM Arts and Entertainment Award it was a huge acknowledgement of all the work that not only this present committee and cast have put in but it is an acknowledgement of the tremendous work that was done on a voluntary basis with nothing but a nod of appreciation and a mention in the programme by so many people down through the years of the existence of the Roscrea Players. Last month The Players were invited to be the actors in an EIRCOM Safety video to highlight Health and Safety at work. This was another new departure for the group and one, which I'm sure, will secure many TV roles for those who took part. (It is rumoured that Ray Galbraith has been approached by the scriptwriters for ER to do a cameo role as Dr Armitage Shanks)

The current committee comprises Colin Williams(Chairman) Anne Louise Mitchell (Secretary) Ray Galbraith(Treasurer), David Donnelly (PRO),
Paul Spencer and Siobhan Bowe.

AGM Details

In Mid August, Roscrea Players hold their AGM and invite anybody interested in keeping this proud and noble tradition of acting in Roscrea alive. Every year it is left to the same few to stage the play and new members (front and back stage) are vital for the existence of the group going forward. So make Thursday, August 11th (Rackett Hall) a date in your diary to get involved with this dynamic group.
