Chernobyl Lifeline Ireland

I'm sure you are aware of the devastating disaster that took place almost 20 years ago at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Ukraine. While the devastation received immense international attention at the time, it has since become less of a cause championed by the world media. The children born in these contaminated areas are suffering the immense and terrifying effects associated with cancer causing radiation.

Now, long after the cameras have gone, the children of the region are living their lives surrounded by poison, in the food they eat, the water they drink, in the air they breathe. This situation is only intensified by the countries economic problems, as the country is outside of the EU and only receives aid from independent organisations.

The only hope for these children, whose lives are poisoned by the legacy of Chernobyl, is you and I. With this in mind, we set up an organisation called Chernobyl Lifeline to work in a number of ways to try and alleviate the hardship and suffering that is the everyday life of children in Belarus.

For the past ten years we have been bringing groups of children each year to eat wholesome food, drink clean water and breathe uncontaminated air. They come to rest and recuperate each summer and Christmas. They stay in areas such as Athy, Birr, Borrisokane, Clara, Donegall, Limerick, Nenagh, Portlaoise, Roscrea, Shannon, and Tullamore. While in Ireland, the children will visit dentists and doctors, even opticians if needed. They will receive whatever medical treatment and equipment they need. However, this is only made possible through continued donations and sponsorship. Please click the How Can I Help? link to the left to find out more about what you can do to help us continue with our outreach.
